TVR sold to a new British owner, Les Edgar
TVR – once the pride of Blackpool – effectively disappeared from the car scene in 2006 when its Russian owner, Nikolai Smolensky, shuttered up TVR just two years after he bought it from Peter Wheeler and last yeare announced there would never be another TVR. But it now seems TVR has been sold to a British businessman, Les Edgar, who has bought the rights to the TVR name and the right to manufacture parts for existing cars. So far, the only evidence of a return is a new splash page on the TVR website (pictured above) which tells us that TVR are ‘Roaring Back’.
BMW and Toyota have agreed to jointly engineer and produce a new sports car as part of a broad-reaching technical partnership that is also set to center on lightweight construction solutions, fuel-cell development and hybrid powertrains. The announcement of the deal builds on an existing agreement for the supply of BMW diesel engines for various Toyota models, agreed to in December 2011. That was advanced with the signing of a memorandum by BMW CEO Norbert Reithofer and Toyota chairman Akio Toyoda in Munich, Germany, on Friday.
Ford’s 1.0 Litre EcoBoost wins Engine of the Year 2013
If anything is going to overturn the received wisdom that all small cars should come with a diesel engine, it’s Ford’s 1.0 litre EcoBoost engine. Torquey, lively and frugal, the 1.0 litre EcoBoost engine is a little marvel, a fact recognised for the second year running by the judging panel for the Engine of the Year Awards, which has given the 1.0 litre EcoBoost the highest ever marks in the award’s fifteen year history. A total of 87 car journalists from 35 countries were hugely impressed with the power, torque and small size of the Ford engine, with one journalist, Peter Lyon, commenting: “Who’d have believed it?
